Meet the Therapist

Janice D. Petty LPC, LSATP, MAC, BCBC

I am a Virginia Board Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner, Master Addiction Counselor, Board Certified Bariatric Counselor, and Founder of Selah Solutions, LLC. I am honored to provide therapy services to clients during a pivotal point in their lives.

I began my journey as a counselor in 1993 and soon discovered my passion for helping individuals and groups heal and rebuild their lives and relationships. As a result of my new love for therapy, I earned an MA degree from Hampton University. I later became licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia states. This has led me to become a panel consultant, featured speaker, and seasoned psychotherapist.

As a seasoned Therapist, I am proficient in working with adults, families, and groups from various backgrounds, including residential treatment centers, psychiatric hospitals, court-ordered programs, inpatient and outpatient programs, emergency service centers, and community service boards. My specialty areas include but are not limited to, working with adults with psychosocial stressors related to mental health, substance abuse, interpersonal/intrapersonal conflicts (I.e., work/life balance, relationship dysfunction, Grief and loss, depression, anxiety, women's issues, life transitions, and coping skills).

My holistic therapeutic approach is interactive, empathic, and directive. I will partner with you consistently in a safe, non-judgmental, and nurturing environment to understand your barriers. As a therapist, I will focus on your strengths to empower you to make healthier life choices, overcome obstacles, and improve relationships with yourself and others. This will include utilizing various evidence-based therapeutic modalities (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, Solution-focused, and Strength-based modalities) uniquely tailored to your treatment goals, needs, and wants.

In my time, I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, reading, and shopping.
